Buy the instrument, not the story.

What this is

Out of Cal exists for one moment: the one where you have a used total station, oscilloscope or multimeter in your cart, the seller says it works, and you have to decide what that is worth. Most of the money lost on used precision instruments is lost right there. Not to fraud, mostly. To not knowing the market price, not knowing what ships in the case, and not knowing which faults are a $40 fix and which make the whole thing a paperweight.

So we do the part nobody has time for. We read the listings, model by model, and publish what working units are actually asking, with the date we looked printed next to the table. We list what should be in the box, what breaks, what to ask the seller, and what to check in the first ten minutes after delivery. Then we get out of the way.

The name is the joke every technician gets. A calibration sticker tells you when an instrument was right. It doesn't tell you whether it still is. Neither does a listing. Our job is to close that gap before you pay, so you buy once, pay the right number, and own an instrument that measures for years.

How we work

Every price band on this site comes from listings a person looked at, on a date printed next to the numbers. When a table is a month old, the date says so. Price reports are refreshed monthly and the buyer's guides whenever the market moves. Asking is not sold, and we say which one we are quoting.

We earn a commission when you buy through the eBay links here. That is how the site pays for itself, and it is the only way it does. It doesn't change the price you pay, it doesn't change the numbers in the tables, and it doesn't buy anyone a better position in a guide. There are no sponsored rankings, no paid placements, and no dealer sees a guide before you do.

We are not a lab and we are not selling calibration. When used is the wrong buy, we say so, including the cases where a new entry-level unit beats a tired name brand. Corrections and better data are welcome. If you have bought something we got wrong, tell us, and the guide gets fixed with a note that says what changed.
